SMOKE, CARBON MONOXIDE AND PROPANE DETECTORS

Smoke, carbon monoxide and propane detectors must be installed in accordance with the 2019 California Residential Code (CRC). All alarms should comply with the California State Fire Marshal's requirements for listing. Requirements can be found here.

~ In each bedroom or sleeping area. 

~ Directly outside of each bedroom or sleeping area.

~ On each story of the dwelling, including basements, but not including crawl spaces and uninhabitable attics. 

~ Smoke alarms should be mounted on the ceiling 4 inches from the wall, or on the wall 4 to 12 inches from the ceiling. Do not install near drafty areas such as windows.

~ Directly outside of each bedroom or sleeping area.

~ On every level of a dwelling, including basements. 

~ Any location where propane appliances are used. 

~ The lowest conditioned space and any crawl space in the dwelling.
