MAMMOTH LAKES
FIRE PROTECTION DISTRICT
"Welcome to the Mammoth Lakes Fire Protection District. Whether this is your home, your home away from home, or your first visit, we are dedicated to the protection of your lives, your property, and your peace of mind. It is our mission to respond promptly with sufficient personnel, equipment, and competency to make things better when they appear to be at their worst. This is only possible through the contribution of your hard-earned tax dollars; you have my personal commitment that we shall be good stewards of those resources. The stations, fire engines, and equipment are yours – we’re simply the caretakers, so please feel free to drop by your firehouse and see what we’re up to." – Fire Chief Frank Frievalt
Wildland Urban Interface
The Wildland Urban Interface (WUI) is a region where developed areas and wildland vegetation meet or intermingle, and where wildfire danger can be extremely high.
Wildland Urban Interface
Because wildfires are more likely to occur in WUI areas, critical prevention strategies are necessary. A collection of resources can be found here.
Financial Transparency
Openness, accountability and honesty define transparency, and it is the District's obligation to be transparent about how taxpayer money is being spent.

IS YOUR
SPACE DEFENSIBLE?
Defensible space can significantly improve your home's chance of surviving a wildfire. It's the buffer you create between your residence and the trees, grass, shrubs and plants that surround it. Defensible space has a critical role in slowing and/or stopping the spread of wildfire.

Integrity
We count on our staff to respect themselves, our community, their profession and the District.

Protection
In order to protect our residents, their property and the environment, prevention strategies are crucial.

Teamwork
Teamwork doesn't evolve by simply grouping people together in a training room or on an engine. Trust is the fundamental component of teamwork.

All Weather
Mammoth Lakes is known for extreme weather conditions. We train our staff to respond to all types of emergencies in all types of weather.

Service
We serve our community by responding to critical incidents, often in extreme conditions, with courage, resourcefulness and passion.

Commitment
The drive and initiative to go above and beyond is what separates the few from the many.

Community
Community means counting on others when you need them the most.

All Risk
We respond to emergencies that include wildland and structure fires, automobile accidents, extrications, ice and water rescues, medical aids, haz mat incidents and more.
